What's your hail rating?
Both our 24 and 26 gauge steel has a Class 4 Impact Resistance. What does this mean? Class 4 is the toughest. This means that when tested the steel sample did not crack when hit twice in the same spot by a steel ball 2 inches in diameter. This is another important reason to go with a steel roof. Hailstones damage asphalt shingles by knocking their granular covering loose. Once enough granules are knocked off, the shingles' underlying asphalt is exposed. Then sunlight deteriorates the asphalt and water enters the house. Therefore, hail damage to your asphalt shingles can be costly and raise your insurance premiums. Many insurance companies are now giving discounts for having steel roofs.
